Children in Katsina Urge Gov’t to Strengthen Measures Against Gender-Based Violence for Girls

The Girls Led Movement Building (GLMB) has called on the Katsina state government to enhance measures aimed at protecting girls from gender-based violence.

This urgent request was made during a courtesy visit to the offices of the Commissioner of Education, and Commissioner of Women Affaris sepeartely in their offices

The visit was part of a series of activities commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child, supported by Save the Children International (SCI).

In response to the children's concerns, the Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa announced that the government plans to introduce guidance and counseling officers in every school.

According to her, these officers will receive training on addressing issues related to molestation and guiding students on how to report such incidents.

She also revealed that the government also intends to collaborate with the AGILE program to raise awareness and provide support for gender-based violence in schools.

The Commissioner emphasized that the safety of children is a top priority to the goverment, stating, "Every child in school will be protected, and the government is committed to ensuring their safety and well-being."

In her response, the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Yar'adua, highlighted the Katsina government's efforts to ensure children's safety and well-being in the state.

Notable among these efforts is the passage of the child protection law, which guarantees safety, education, health, and overall well-being for children in Katsina.
